An insight into some of the early efforts made by new Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard to improve the health and fitness of his players has been provided on Monday evening.

Up and running

The Gerrard era at Villa Park was of course kicked into full swing this past weekend.

After a dismal opening to the campaign culminated in Dean Smith being dismissed early in the month, those in a position of power at the club swooped decisively to lure the ex-Liverpool midfielder away from Scottish champions Rangers.

Gerrard, in turn, oversaw his first outing in the Claret and Blue’s dugout on Saturday afternoon.

And what a start it proved for the Englishman.

On the back of a testing 90 minutes against high-flying Brighton, Villa ultimately emerged on the right side of a 2-0 scoreline, owing to strikes from both Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings.

Villans’ new diet

As alluded to above, though, evidently, Stevie G is far from ready to rest on his laurels.

This comes with an insight into some of the early measures introduced by the tactician in a bid to improve the wellbeing of his new players having been provided late this evening.

As per the reliable Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, Gerrard has implemented a strict code of conduct for his squad, which features a number of banned foods and drinks.

Off the menu at Villa Park moving forward are understood to be all of sauces, puddings, fizzy drinks and hot chocolate.
