Vitesse Arnhem are trying their best to keep hold of defender Danilho Doekhi as the Rangers target continues to weigh-up his summer options.

Recent reports in the Netherlands have recently claimed that the centre-back is on Steven Gerrard ‘s summer wish-list with the likes of Premier League sides Newcastle and Norwich, as well as Fulham, reportedly keeping tabs on the pacy 23-year-old.

The former Holland Under-21 star has opened the door for a move to the newly-crowned Premiership champions, admitting he would take any offer under consideration during the off-season, but his current employers are keen to keep hold of their prized asset.

Netherlands news outlet Gelderlander report that Vitesse are set to offer the Ibrox target a bumper new contract in the hopes that he commits his long-term future to the club.

Eredivise rivals Feyenoord are said to also been keen on signing Doekhi, with the asking priced reported to be around the €4million mark.

When asked about interest from Rangers earlier this week, he told Dutch news outlet De Gelderlander: “I can’t do anything with it now. All my business runs through my manager, but if something is serious, I will seriously think about it.”

“In recent months, various clubs have shown interest, but nothing has been concrete so far.

“Or clubs have come forward that I do not see as the best next step in this phase of my career.

“If there is nothing, then I have to focus on Vitesse. That is what I am doing now.

“If there is no dream club, or transfer, then that may be disappointing.

“But I will not get stuck in that. Vitesse do not have to fear anything.

“I have to be there on the field, regardless of any transfer problems. If I don’t perform, I’ll have myself to blame.”

Gerrard has already bolstered his squad this summer in the shape of midfielder John Lundstram and striker Fashion Sakala, as he and his players aim to reach the group stages of the Champions League for the first time since 2008 next season.
