Softball Falls to Tigers on Sunday

Central Connecticut State University softball dropped its final game of the LSU Invitational on Sunday, losing to the host Louisiana State University 5-0.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Meg Gorman got the Blue Devils cooking with a leadoff single to right center, but the LSU defense was able to get out of the jam. Ashley Antonazzo similarly made quick work of the Tigers’ lineup in the bottom of the first.
  • The Tigers pounced on an early error from the Blue Devils and smacked a home run to left field that gave them a 2-0 lead. LSU hit a double after this that turned into another run.
  • Alex Rodgers started the third inning off for CCSU with a walk, and Gorman followed it up with a bunt that got her on with a single and advanced Rodgers to second. A groundout from Jazmin Lasane moved both runners into scoring position, but the Blue Devils were unable to get them home.
  • The Tigers began the bottom of the third inning off with two singles, and scored another run by way of a wild pitch, putting them up 4-0.
  • LSU struck out the side in the fourth and fifth innings, shutting down the CCSU offense. The Tigers’ scored once more on a solo shot to right field in the fifth.

NOTES

  • Gorman led the Blue Devils with two hits on the afternoon. The junior is tied for fourth on the team with five hits so far on the early season. Howard leads the team with 11.
