Tottenham Hotspur are thinking of reviving their interest in Fiorentina starlet Dusan Vlahovic during the January transfer window.
Dusan Vlahovic, 21, has caught the attention of a host of top European clubs following his goal-scoring exploits at Fiorentina. After joining from Partizan Belgrade in 2018, the 21-year-old centre-forward finally enjoyed his breakthrough campaign with La Viola the last term, netting 21 Serie A goals. With three goals in five appearances, he has enjoyed a flying start to the 2021/22 Serie A season.
With two years left on his current deal, the Serbian international was widely expected to leave Fiorentina in the summer, and Tottenham were patiently waiting on the wings to pounce on him. The north Londoners looked at Vlahovic as a potential replacement for Harry Kane but as it became clear their talismanic striker was to stay put, their interest in the 21-year-old cooled off.
However, it is believed that Spurs will return for the Fiorentina man in January. In addition to Spurs, Juventus and Atletico Madrid are also interested in Vlahovic, who is valued at no less than €70-€80 million.
Harry Kane’s future remains up in the air
Harry Kane has endured a barren start to the new Premier League campaign after failing to force through a summer move to Manchester City. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was adamant about not selling the club’s most prized asset to direct Premier League rivals. The notoriously tough negotiator stood firm in his decision that Kane is not for sale, even though the Cityzens were ready to pay €150m.
Having expressed his desire of leaving Spurs to win titles and trophies, Kane, 28, is certain to have more suitors next year when he’ll have just two years remaining on the six-year contract he signed in the summer of 2018. If Tottenham don’t win a trophy as well as finish in the top four under Nuno Espirito Santo, it’ll be fair to believe then that is the end of the England international at the White Hart Lane.
Dusan Vlahovic could be a smart signing for Spurs
Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo clearly knows Kane’s situation and it is easy to understand why his club are planning to revive their pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic.
Vlahovic, one of Europe’s highly-rated young talents, has been smashing goals left, right and centre for Fiorentina and rightly finds himself on the radar of top clubs. Standing at 6ft 3ins tall, he would undoubtedly bolster Tottenham’s attacking ranks while being a potential replacement for Kane. The 21-year-old is still learning his trade, and certainly has got the height and physicality to cope with the hustle and bustle of Premier League football.
However, it will be interesting to see if Spurs can do anything to convince Fiorentina to part ways with the Serbian hotshot, who is seen as the future captain at Artemio Franchi Stadium. For now, Vlahovic has once again emerged as a major target for Tottenham, who have seemingly started planning for life after Kane.
