These Chelsea fans chose Hakimi backup plan out of Traore, Hudson-Odoi, or Livramento – Talk Chelsea

If you haven’t been invested in the Achraf Hakimi saga over the last few weeks, then well done you!

Unfortunately I, plus many other Chelsea fans, have been closely watching the developments of this, regardless of whether we need the player or not.

What actually happened with Chelsea and the race for Hakimi, all is fully detailed and explained here on my personal site.

Chelsea looked set to complete the signing last week, with multiple big sources reporting that they were close as PSG looked to have disappeared in the race.

However, as things always do in these transfer sagas, the situation changed and it is PSG that look set to land Hakimi this summer ahead of Chelsea.

If this happens, and I say if because as we know anything can happen in transfer deals and things can often change in an instant, but if Hakimi joins PSG, what do Chelsea do instead? Chase a backup option? Promote a youth player? Or go with what we have?

Well, that’s exactly what I asked Chelsea fans today on our latest poll.

Adama Traore from Wolves is highly considered to be the backup option, as reliably reported by The Telegraph recently.

The Spanish international clearly has a lot of quality and very impressive pace and directness out on the wings, but is he the answer?

Well, the Blues fans have spoken and they simply say NO!

The highest clicked answer is to promote highly rated youth player Tino Livramento, with 58% out of almost 7,000 voters picking this option. I am actually inclined to agree with this as well.

I think Traore is a great player, but does he really add anything more than just a great squad option? Does he do anything more than Livramento can do? I’m not so sure.

And neither were the Chelsea fans, because the second most clicked option is to use Callum Hudson-Odoi as the backup to Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta at right wing back, with 25% of voters hitting that option.

Finally, Traore gets just 17% of clicks, so it appears it is a pretty heavy decision against signing Traore if we cannot land Hakimi.
