Leeds United: Dean Windass tips Whites for big-money signing

Dean Windass has tipped Leeds United to make a big-money move for Ben White to return to Elland Road this summer as he suggested he ‘could see that happening.’

White spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Leeds and helped them return to the Premier League having won the Championship.

Leeds attempted to sign the centre-back last summer, but Brighton made it clear they wanted to keep their centre-back. However, Windass has backed the Lilywhites to go try again for White this summer, seeing a potential return to Elland Road as a realistic prospect.

He told Transfer Tavern: “I could see that happening but it all depends on money so if they’re happy with the contracts and everything else then yeah, I could see that happening.”

TIF Thoughts on Ben White to Leeds…

White was ever-present in the Leeds side that won the Championship two seasons ago playing all 46 matches in the Championship for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, and collected the club’s Young Player of the Year at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Leeds made three bids for White last summer, with the highest in the region of £25 million before deciding to turn their attention elsewhere. The 23-year-old appeared 39 times in all competitions for Brighton this season and it seems Graham Potter isn’t likely to let White go on the cheap given how prominent he has been in his plans.

An issue for Leeds? The Athletic reporter David Ornstein is reporting that Arsenal are moving closer to reaching an agreement worth £50 million for the signing of White. Will Leeds match the bid from the Gunners? Arsenal have already missed out on signing Emiliano Buendia this summer and will surely be desperate to get this deal over the line.
