At one point this summer Thomas Tuchel was training a group of around 43 players, and that was even before a large section of them had returned from the Euros.
Since then many of them have either been sold on permanent deals, or gone out on loan.

However, for the likes of Ross Barkley and Malang Sarr, they have been the ones left behind as things stand (there are still windows open in parts of Europe).
But there is another player left behind who has very much become the forgotten man, quite literally. Did nobody want to sort out the future of a player who has been at Chelsea for 16 years now? Clearly not.
Nope, the future for Lewis Baker as things stand sets to be a season in the U23s waiting for his Chelsea contract to run out next summer and leaving on a free transfer.
Of course, this is no skin of Chelsea’s noses, they didn’t pay a penny for him, and he’s earned them enough money from loan fees over the years.
But for a player who was actually selected for Thomas Tuchel playing as a centre back in pre-season this summer, the end of his 16 years at Chelsea being like this just has that extra element of sadness about it.
Lewis Baker also there. Not quite as gutting that he didn’t get a move because he was on loan (and did well) in Turkey last season and will likely go out there again, but it’s still very frustrating that clubs in England are unwilling to give him a chance. Baker is a decent little player, and he was always one that many believed had a small chance of making it at Chelsea. But now at the age of 26, he finds himself in this predicament and it’s not cool to see.
Even Danny Drinkwater got a loan and his contract is also up next summer, there was no renewal there before he left. We could have at least got Baker some competitive senior football for his final year at the club, no?
Maybe we will be surprised, maybe he gets a loan to Turkey or something, but until then, he HAS been training with Thomas Tuchel and the first team… Madness.
He also IS IN in the Champions League squad… !
Ross Barkley, Malang Sarr and Lewis Baker have been handed squad numbers after being included in #Chelsea‘s Champions League squad.
