Chelsea hero set for move to Italian giants | Shoot

Right backs at left back, full backs at centre back, midfielders as strikers – we have probably bared witness to one of the most unconventional football season’s of all time.

It appears the footballing rule book of dos and don’ts has been hurled into the abyss as clubs all across Europe have turned to the unorthodox to get an edge over their opponents.

Both Manchester City and Chelsea opted for the false nine with Kevin De Bruyne and Kai Havertz playing ahead of more recognised strikers in the Champions League final, while Denmark and Italy got to the semi-finals with naturally right footed left backs in Leonardo Spinazzola and Joakim Maehle.

And, according to the Daily Mail, the false nine could be set to stay at Stamford Bridge as Olivier Giroud is allegedly close to securing a move to AC Milan.

Giroud is France’s second highest ever goalscorer with 46 goals.

The Blues did recently extend his Chelsea contract by one season, however, it appears this has not dissuaded the Rossoneri from coming in for the experienced French star.

Giroud signed for Chelsea in January 2018 and has gone on to win the FA Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League at Stamford Bridge.

AC Milan pushed city rivals Inter Milan all the way last season, as Stefano Pioli’s side finished second and qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 2011/12.

It is believed Milan will need to pay a £1 million buy out clause for Giroud as well as his £3 million per year salary.

The seven time European champions have already signed Fikayo Tomori from the Blues and it’s thought that they are also keen on taking forgotten Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko on another season long loan.
