BUENOS AIRES, May 4 (Xinhua) — Eduardo Salvio converted a first-half penalty as Argentine giants Boca Juniors secured a 1-0 away win over Bolivian side Always Ready in their Copa Libertadores group match on Wednesday.
Salvio put the visitors ahead in the 37th minute after he was brought down Arnaldo Gimenez.
Boca defended defiantly thereafter and the hosts’ task was made more difficult when Mauricio Cortes was shown a straight red card for violent conduct in the 86th minute.
The result leaves Boca second in Group E, a point behind leaders Corinthians, while Always Ready are fourth with four points from as many matches.
In Argentina, a late strike from Pedro dos Santos earned Flamengo a 2-2 draw with Talleres Cordoba.
The hosts took the lead on the half-hour mark when Willian Arao turned the ball into his own net. Giorgian de Arrascaeta equalized just after halftime but
Michael Santos restored Talleres’ advantage seven minutes later.
Pedro earned the Brazilian side a valuable point with a cool finish in the 69th minute following Gabriel Barbosa’s assist.
Flamengo lead Group H with 10 points from four outings, three points ahead of second-placed Talleres.
In other Copa Libertadores fixtures on Wednesday, Olimpia won 1-0 at home to Penarol, Corinthians drew 0-0 at Deportivo Cali and Colon clinched a 2-1 home win over Cerro Porteno.
