Manchester United in advanced negotiations to sign Marseille star Boubacar Kamara

Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara, as new interim boss Ralf Rangnick edges closer to his first signing.

One of the highly-rated talents in French football, Boubacar Kamara, 22, has become a regular for Marseille over the last few seasons and has earned rave reviews for his performances of late. Having come through the youth ranks of Marseille, he has gone on to make over 140 appearances for the Ligue 1 club whilst winning nine caps for the France under-21 team.

The defensive midfielder, who can also operate as a centre-back, is into the final seven months of his contract, meaning the player can sign a pre-contract agreement with a non-French club in January if he wishes to.

Due to his current situation at Marseille, the 22-year-old has attracted interest from a host of clubs ahead of the winter transfer window, including Barcelona. It is believed that Kamara, who was heavily linked with moves to Wolves and Newcastle United in the summer, will not renew his contract at the Orange Velodrome and leave the Ligue 1 club on a free transfer once this season ends.

It seems, though, that Manchester United are the favourites to sign Kamara from Marseille. The Red Devils could wrap up a deal for the young Frenchman within the opening days of the winter transfer window if everything goes according to the plan.

Ralf Rangnick plotting midfield overhaul

Fred and Scott McTominay have been Ralf Rangnick’s first-choice midfield options, and even though the duo have performed well in the few games, there’s a lot to be desired.

The defensive midfield position is something Manchester United are in dire need of reinforcing. Nemanja Matic is past his prime and doesn’t offer the Red Devils a long-term solution in that position. Having lost his legs and ability to perform consistently at an intense level, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the experienced Serbian midfielder is pushed towards the exit door come summer.

In addition, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard are out of contracts at the end of the season, while Donny Van de Beek has struggled for game time since arriving at the club from Ajax last summer. Amid such a situation, Ralf Rangnick must prioritise adding to his midfield ranks in January if an opportunity arises.

Boubacar Kamara could be a smart long-term investment at Man United

Boubacar Kamara is the latest player to be linked with a move to Man United. The 22-year-old fits Ralf Rangnick’s criteria for transfer targets as he is young, dynamic, mature, has a lot of potentials and can play in various positions.

The Frenchman would need time to get to the grips with Premier League football but undoubtedly, he has the attributes to make the defensive midfield position his own at Man United. As Kamara’s contract is up in the summer, the Red Devils can potentially sign him for cheaper than his current market price, as Marseille don’t want to lose him on a free transfer.

Considering the interest he has garnered in recent times, Man United would do a terrific job by striking a deal for Kamara in the New Year.
