What’s the story?
Well, the Reds have been in contact with the Italian outfit over a deal for the 21-cap Serbia international.
Calciomercato add that Liverpool are willing to pay a sum in the region of €70m – €80m to sign the 26-year-old (£60m – £68m).
However, Lazio are asking for €100m (£86m) for the midfielder, who is nicknamed ‘The Sergeant’ over at the Serie A club.
Why is Milinković-Savić valued so highly?
Well, he’s been excellent for many seasons now, so much so that he was described as a better player than Paul Pogba by his agent, Mateja Kezman.
He would become the most expensive player in Liverpool’s history if Jürgen Klopp and Michael Edwards met Lazio’s asking price.
Life after Gini Wijnaldum
If Liverpool pulled this deal off, it would be a major statement.
Klopp recently lost a trusty steed in Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain, but in Milinković-Savić, he would quite frankly have twice the player.
Lazio’s No.21 is a real box-to-box entertainer. He scored eight goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions last season.
While he’s technical enough to rack up goal involvements, he is also an impressive physical specimen who can offer plenty from a defensive aspect.
In Klopp’s high-tempo system, he would be the perfect midfielder to switch a passage of defending into a counter-attack.
Only time will tell if Liverpool decide to stump up the cash.
