BUENOS AIRES, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) — Argentina’s Independiente have appointed their former defender Eduardo Dominguez as head coach for the 2022 season, according to local media reports.

The 43-year-old replaces Julio Cesar Falcioni, who parted ways with the club last month following a disappointing 2021 Primera Division campaign.

Dominguez, a former center-back who represented Independiente in 2005 and 2006, is expected to conduct his first training session on Thursday.

Having turned to management in 2015, Dominguez has had spells in charge of Huracan, Colon and Uruguay’s Nacional.

One of Argentina’s most successful clubs, Independiente finished ninth in last year’s Primera Division standings, 16 points behind champions River Plate.
