BUENOS AIRES, June 10 (Xinhua) — Lucas Romero scored a first-half winner as Independiente climbed to third in Argentina’s Primera Division standings on Friday with a 1-0 home win over Talleres Cordoba.

Romero struck in the 26th minute at Libertadores de America stadium with a low long-range drive following a Juan Insaurralde corner.

Talleres dominated possession and had more shots on goal than their rivals but were unable to convert their chances as Independiente secured their first win of the campaign.

Eduardo Dominguez’s men now have had four points from their opening two matches and trail leaders Gimnasia on goal difference. Talleres are ninth in the 28-team standings, one point further back.

In other fixtures on Friday, Huracan secured a 2-0 home win over Rosario Central, Defensa y Justicia drew 1-1 at Lanus, Estudiantes won 1-0 at Aldosivi and Gimnasia prevailed 2-0 at home to Patronato.
