RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) — Velez Sarsfield scored twice in the last five minutes to secure a 3-3 draw at home to Independiente in Argentina’s Primera Division on Saturday.

Juan Lucero gave the hosts an early lead by bundling home from close range but Silvio Romero equalized shortly after with a header following Fabricio Bustos’ cross.

Romero struck again just after the half-hour mark with a low finish after combining with Alan Sonora before Ayrton Costa made it 3-1 with a 71st-minute strike.

Velez pulled a goal back in the 88th minute through Thiago Almada’s cool finish and Matias de los Santos netted the equalizer with a left-footed shot to the top right corner following Mateo Pellegrino’s set piece.

The result meant Velez Sarsfield have now gone eight matches without defeat and they now occupy sixth place in the 26-team Primera Division standings, eight points behind leaders Talleres Cordoba. Independiente are fifth with 23 points.

In other fixtures on Sunday, San Lorenzo drew 0-0 at Atletico Tucuman, Huracan won 1-0 at home to Arsenal Sarandi, Patronato drew 0-0 at Platense and Godoy Cruz were held to a 2-2 home draw by Newell’s Old Boys.
