October 27, 2021 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes (9-12-10; 37 pts.) face the Portland Timbers (14-13-4; 46 pts.) at Providence Park tonight at 7:00 p.m. PT. The match will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF.
San Jose is in search of its first-ever win at Providence Park and will be facing Portland for the third and final time in 2021. The Timbers have fared better in the series this season with a win in San Jose and a draw in Portland. The Quakes’ last victory in the West Coast rivalry was a 3-0 result at PayPal Park on April 6, 2019.
The Earthquakes are unbeaten in two straight matches (1-0-1) and outscored their two opponents last week 5-1. Portland currently sits in fourth place in the Western Conference and are looking to snap a three-match losing streak.
Chris Wondolowski, who scored his 169th MLS goal last Wednesday, has tallied 11 career goals against the Timbers, most among all players in MLS history. Tonight’s match will also feature the return of Quakes forward Jeremy Ebobisse to Portland for the first time since being traded to San Jose earlier this year. Ebobisse scored 26 goals in 88 appearances across four and a half seasons with the Timbers.
San Jose enters the match in 10th place in the West and would be eliminated from postseason contention with a loss or draw.
