BUENOS AIRES, July 28 (Xinhua) — Uruguayan midfielder Nicolas De La Cruz netted twice as River Plate secured a 3-0 away win over Lanus in Argentina’s Primera Division on Wednesday.
Bruno Zuculini opened the scoring with a long-range drive before De La Cruz slotted an angled shot past goalkeeper Lucas Acosta on the counterattack.
De La Cruz put the result beyond doubt by bundling in from close range after Acosta failed to clear a Jorge Carrascal cross from the right wing.
River are now third in the 26-team standings with two wins and a defeat, a point behind leaders San Lorenzo and second-placed Independiente. Lanus dropped to fourth, behind River on goal difference.
In other Argentine top flight fixtures on Thursday, Independiente won 2-0 at Patronato, Sarmiento prevailed 1-0 at home to Platense, Defensa y Justicia drew 0-0 at Velez Sarsfield, Atletico Tucuman won 2-1 at Godoy Cruz and Banfield clinched a 1-0 away win at Union Santa Fe.
