BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) — Boca Juniors recovered from an early deficit to secure a 4-2 win over fellow title contenders Lanus in Argentina’s Primera Division on Saturday.

Victor Malcorra gave the visitors the lead in the 23rd minute with a first-time finish to the bottom left corner after Jose Lopez’s cross from the right wing.

The hosts equalized through Marcelo Weigandt, who headed in at the near post following Edwin Cardona’s inch-perfect pass.

Ezequiel Almendra put Boca ahead with a low 30-yard drive on the counterattack and Boca made it 3-1 when Luis Vazquez fired home from 12 yards after Jose Sand’s bungled attempt at a clearance.

Diego Braghieri gave Lanus a glimmer of hope as he capitalized on fine work from Augustin Rodriguez to nod in from close range eight minutes from time.

But Cristian Pavon put the result beyond doubt by converting a stoppage-time penalty after Weigandt was brought down by Lopez.

The result at La Bombonera leaves Boca sixth in the 26-team standings with 24 points from 15 games, nine points behind leaders River Plate. Lanus are fourth with 26 points.
