Boca Juniors keep pressure on leaders

BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) — First-half goals from Lisandro Lopez and Rodrigo Montes handed Boca Juniors a 2-1 win away to Atletico Tucuman in Argentina’s Primera Division on Saturday.

Lopez gave the hosts an early lead by hammering home a left-footed shot from close range following a corner.

Boca doubled the advantage through Montes, who latched onto Cristian Pavon’s cross and sent a first-time effort into the bottom right corner.

The hosts were gifted a goal just after halftime when Lopez inadvertently turned the ball into his own net while trying to clear an Augusto Lotti cross from the right side of the penalty box.

Atletico Tucuman finished the match with just 10 men after Franco Mussis was shown a straight red card for a crude challenge on Aaron Molinas in the 95th minute.

Boca have now gone six games without a defeat in Argentina’s top flight and are seventh in the 26-team standings with 18 points from 12 matches.

They are eight points behind leaders Talleres Cordoba, with both teams having played 12 games so far. Atletico are 11th, three points further back.
