Manchester United keeping tabs on Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma

Brighton and Hove Albion could sell star Yves Bissouma for around €35m in the final days of the transfer window, with Manchester United and Arsenal keeping a close eye on the midfielder.

Yves Bissouma, 24, joined Brighton and Hove Albion from Ligue 1 outfit Lille in a £15 million deal in the summer of 2018. He has gradually established himself as a key cog in Graham Potter’s system at the Amex Stadium over the last two seasons, thereby, becoming one of the coveted players in the Premier League at the moment.

The Malian international has made 89 Premier League appearances to date, scoring two goals and registering an assist. He has also started the new English top-flight campaign well, producing a Man of the Match performance in Brighton’s 2-0 win over newly-promoted Watford.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have enjoyed a terrific transfer window, welcoming four new players to the club and keeping Paul Pogba following months of links to Paris Saint-Germain. The likes of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane have arrived at the club, while Cristiano Ronaldo has made a sensational return to Old Trafford.

Manchester United remain keen on adding a defensive midfielder

Despite making some high-profile signings in the transfer window, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t look to be done with the recruitment. The Norwegian wants to do a deal for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice as he feels a midfield signing as vital for the Reds’ to challenge the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool for the title.

Declan Rice fits the profile perfectly of what United are looking at the moment in midfield, but as the midfielder has three years left on his contract and West Ham valuing him at £100million, Solskjaer has been forced to shelve his plans.

Scott McTominay’s recent groin surgery might have changed the United manager’s mind over a midfield signing, however. Plus, with Nemanja Matic entering the final stage of his career and Fred not up to the standard to start week in, week out for the Reds, a defensive midfielder arriving before Tuesday’s transfer deadline would be more than welcome.

Yves Bissouma would be a solid addition to the Red Devils’ midfield

Signing Yves Bissouma would be ideal for the Reds, allowing Solskjaer to unleash his attack. The 24-year-old is more than a holding midfielder, and his passing ability, tackling and interceptions skills and boundless energy to cover a lot of ground would grant Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes with the license to link play and open up rigid defences, which United failed to do so on many occasions last season.

The Malian international has proven himself in Brighton and is at the right age to make the jump to a bigger club. At United, Bissouma could take his game to the next level and improve the quality of Solskjaer’s midfield. He’ll be an upgrade over Fred, whilst being the perfect long-term replacement for the ageing Matic.

In the Brighton star, Solskjaer might find a solution to his problems in midfield. All in all, Bissouma has the required tools to succeed at Old Trafford and may well turn out to be the missing piece in Solskjaer’s United jigsaw.
