Week 2 of the 2021-22 Premier League season is done and dusted, with five teams emerging at the top after keeping their record clean. Chelsea and Liverpool continued to display their title credentials, recording emphatic victories over Arsenal and Burnley, respectively.

Tottenham, Brighton & Hove Albion, and West Ham United also kept pace with impressive victories in Week 2, joining the Blues and the Reds at six points.

Lukaku makes winning return to Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku made a dream start in his second debut for Chelsea, scoring the opener in the Blues’ 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday. The 28-year-old Belgian showed why Chelsea spent £97.5 million to get him back from Inter Milan, tapping in the opening goal after 14 minutes with just his third touch of the game.

It is incredible to think that this was Lukaku’s first goal with the club he supported as a child. He failed to hit the back of the net during his first stint with Chelsea from 2011-2014, making just 15 appearances at Stamford Bridge as he was not given a single Premier League start.

Lukaku bounced back from that debacle, though, rebuilding his career at Everton, Manchester United, and Inter Milan. Lukaku’s career took off in Italy, scoring 64 goals in 95 appearances for Inter Milan as he led them to the Serie A title last season.

Manager Thomas Tuchel praised his new signing after the game, saying that Lukaku was dominant and proved his value already by linking up well with Mason Mount and Kai Havertz up front.

Lukaku wasn’t the only one who made a grand return to the Premier League stage this weekend. Anfield also returned to full capacity for the first time in 18 months, giving the Reds an extra boost in their 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday. Diogo Jota opened the scoring in the 18th minute for Liverpool before Sadio Mane sealed the deal with a goal in the 69th minute.

West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion keep pace with English giants

Tottenham’s Harry Kane, linked to Manchester City this entire summer, made his first appearance for the Spurs in their 1-0 win over Wolves. He returned as a second-half substitute in a match that was decided by an early Dele Alli penalty.

This season, the early surprise in the Premier League are West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion. They remained perfect to start the season, with West Ham United trouncing Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion defeating Watford in Week 2. The Hammers lead the league via goal difference after a 4-1 demolition of Leicester City, with Michail Antonio scoring a brace.
