Tuchel Says Chelsea Need a Break After Brighton Draw

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel says his side needs a rest following Tuesday’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion after a grueling run of fixtures since the start of December.

The Blues have won seven, drawn six and lost two games across a 15-game span since the start of December.

Chelsea are winless in their past four Premier League games, managing only three points to slip 12 points behind leaders Manchester City who have a game in hand.

“They need this rest so badly. You can say its an excuse or whatever but its like this, look at our schedule,” Tuchel said after the draw at Brighton.

“When we arrived at Man City, we had a Carabao Cup game before and they did not. Now we arrive here, they had more days to prepare, they had a whole week to prepare before.

“We play since November, the team that plays and plays and plays and plays. We need to recharge the batteries and we need to disconnect.

“This is my feeling, this is why we give the players two days off and then we will prepare for two days.

“We will use Friday and Saturday to prepare for Sunday because then its the next game against Tottenham.”

The Blues also have the upcoming commitment of the Club World Cup in February in Abu Dhabi.

Hakim Ziyech had opened the scoring against the Seagulls on Tuesday, with Adam Webster heading home a second-half equalizer.
