Alessandro Campagna is one of a few persons in the water polo world who won Olympic medals both as a player and as a coach.
The crown of his successful playing career is the Olympic gold in Barcelona 1992, but he won a European (1993) and a World title (1994). A row of medals he continued as a coach. Guiding Italy, he clinched silver at the 2012 Olympic Games and bronze in Rio four years after, two gold medals at the World Championships (2009 and 2019), etc.
Since 2019, he has been a member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale.
