The national team of Montenegro has been reinforced by a former member of the Belarussian national team Konstantin Averka.
Averka has been allowed to play for Montenegro, the Water Polo Federation of Montenegro announced. Averka moved to Montenegro in 2018 and played for Jadran Herceg Novi between 2018 and 2021. Last year he left Jadran and joined Spanish Sabadell. Playing for Sabadell, he won the LEN Euro Cup.
The Montenegrin Water Polo Federation was trying to complete a procedure of bringing Averka to the national team for three years. He has wished to play for Montenegro since 2019. The wishes, finally, came true.
Today, the Federation announced that the procedure had been completed and Averka would join the national team at the first next preparations of Montenegro. Averka didn’t play for Belarus for more than a year. All relevant federations and authorities approved his request to change a “sports passport”, and he will be able to play for Montenegro at the 2022 World Championships in Budapest (if head coach Vladimir Gojkovic picks him, of course)
