Indiana 500 Free State Runner-Up Erin Cummins Sends 2023 Verbal to Kentucky

NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has a new addition for its Class of 2027, receiving a verbal commitment from Junior National qualifier Erin Cummins of Carmel, Indiana.

She will join Lily DeLongMarie BelliLillie BoggsLibby GretherMegan HutchinsElizabeth TiltCassie HowellPaige Housman and Madi McGlothen in Lexington at the start of the 2023-24 season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Kentucky!! Big thank you to my family, friends, and coaches who have helped me throughout this process. GO CATS!!!”

Primarily a distance freestyler, Cummins trains year-round with Carmel Swim Club and most recently earned three best times at Indianapolis Sectionals where she placed fourth in the 1500m free and sixth in the 800m free. Last summer, she raced to fourth in both the 800m free and 1500m free at Indiana LCM Seniors.

Currently a junior at Carmel High School, Cummins helped her team clinch its 36th-straight Indiana State Championship title this past year. She was the runner-up in the 500 free in 2022 after taking seventh in that event in 2021.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:50.75
  • 500 free – 4:51.47
  • 1000 free – 10:19.64
  • 1650 free – 16:55.24

Kentucky is coming off yet another successful season in 2021-22. They concluded the SEC Championships as the team runner-up with 1043 points, their second-highest finish and second-most point total ever at the SEC Championships. The Wildcats’ NCAA finish of 12th with 115.5 points matched their second-best team finish and marked the second-most points scored in school history.

The 2020-21 season was also one of the history books for the UK women’s team, culminating with the Wildcats winning their first-ever SEC title with a program-record 1,124 points under head coach Lars Jorgensen.
