AUBURN, Ala. – The No. 44 ranked Alabama women’s tennis team fell to No. 20 Auburn, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Ala.
Anne Marie Hiser downed No. 99-ranked Taylor Russo on court 5 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, while Alba Cortina Pou and Anna Parkhomenko earned a decisive 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Moka Ito and Loudmilla Bencheikh forced No. 11 Selin Ovunc and Russo to a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles, before falling 7-6(6) to give the Tigers the doubles point.
With the score sitting at 3-1, Alabama was still very much in the match after forcing third sets on courts 1, 2 and 3. Bencheikh, making her Crimson Tide debut after joining the team for the spring semester, was ahead on court 2, while Parkhomenko was tied in the third set on court 3 when Ito fell to No. 62 Ovunc at No. 1 singles, closing the match in AU’s favor.
