Dele Alli backed for Liverpool move

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former Sheffield Wednesday frontman Dean Windass has admitted that both Liverpool and Chelsea would be interested in signing Tottenham’s Dele Alli.

Alli, who has 50 Premier League goals as per Transfermarkt, has been largely unused by Jose Mourinho this season, making just two starts in the Premier League and featuring for just a total of 204 minutes in the top flight.

However, the England midfielder, who was subject of interest from Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG in January, has recently come back into the frame at Spurs, featuring in each of their previous six matches in all competitions, including against Burnley on Sunday and Fulham on Thursday.

That came after Alli gave Mourinho a timely-reminder of his capabilities during Tottenham’s Europa League tie with Wolfsberger last Thursday – opening the scoring with a spectacular overhead kick before laying on assists for both Carlos Vinicius and Gareth Bale.

Who was the top scorer during the 2018/19 season?

But Windass suggested that the 24-year-old’s future lies away from North London. He told FFC:

“I think Liverpool would take him, like a bit of a number 10. Would he be on Jurgen’s list? Not so much Manchester City, because they have got that many number 10s. Dele Alli is a number 10.

“What Premier League club wouldn’t take him? Man City probably, Chelsea would take him. But it’s up to the player, if he wants to go and play aboard then PSG would be the first one on the lips because of Pochettino.”

You’d have to say that given the Pochettino connection, if Alli is moved on this summer, then a switch to the French capital could be his likeliest destination.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea have an abundance of central midfielders, and given his struggles this season, it remains to be seen whether either would be willing to fork out a potentially large sum for the Tottenham man.
