LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Boston University men’s tennis team opened its week-long trip to California with a 6-1 loss at UC San Diego on Tuesday morning.
The Tritons (3-8) won two of the three doubles matches for the first point and then captured the last five singles points to defeat the Terriers (0-9).
Freshman Adrian Pawlowski led BU by winning both of his matches. He first teamed with sophomore Johann Sajonz for a 6-1 victory in the top doubles slot and then cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.
UCSD managed to win the doubles point by fending off freshman Dion Loutas and sophomore Ben Letzer, 6-4, at line 3 following a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles against sophomore Jonah Dickson and freshman Gabe Brown.
In other singles action, Sajonz came up just short in a super tiebreaker for the 5-7, 7-5, 10-8 loss at line 6. Brown won eight games in a 6-2, 7-6(5) defeat in the No. 5 slot, while Dickson also dropped a tiebreaker at line 1 to UCSD, 7-6(3), 6-0.
The Terriers will next visit UC Irvine on Friday (March 11) at 5 p.m. ET.
