Larry Trumpauskas won an amazing double as he added the Junior Boys’ Singles to the Cadet title he won yesterday, while Anaya Patel was Junior Girls’ Singles champion at the Mark Bates Ltd Cadet, U17 and Junior Nationals.
Unseeded Trumpauskas beat top seed Connor Green in the final, with bronze medals for Louis Price and Joshua Bruce.
Fourth seed Patel won her title with victory over second seed Amy Marriott. Bronzes went to Mari Baldwin and Megan Jones.

Junior Boys’ Singles
In an amazing story, Larry Trumpauskas added the Junior title to the Cadet gold medal he won yesterday, as an unseeded player to boot.
Trumpauskas, with his dad Lorestas in his corner, defeated top seed Connor Green 3-0 (11-8, 11-8, 11-9) in the final as he finished the tournament brimming with belief.
Trumpauskas sunk fifth seed Louis Price in five in the semi-finals. It was a come-from-behind win too, taking it 3-2 (6-11, 11-7, 3-11, 11-7, 11-7). Green beat Joshua Bruce 3-1 (10-12, 11-4, 11-3, 11-8).
In the quarter-finals, there was a rematch of the Under-17 final as Green took on Naphong Boonyaprapa. Green got a measure of revenge – not that the good friends saw it that way – as he won in five high-quality games (12-14, 11-8, 11-7, 9-11, 11-5).
In fact, all four quarters went the distance and could have gone either way. Bruce set up a meeting with Green as he beat Felix Thomis. Thomis closed from 2-0 down to level, and Bruce then had to take an injury timeout for treatment on his playing arm. It must have worked – he won the decider 11-4.
Price was twice pegged back by Tom Rayner before prevailing 3-2 (11-7, 10-12, 12-10, 8-11, 11-7), and Larry Trumpauskas ended the reign of 2021 champion Maxim Stevens, by a 3-2 (6-11, 11-7, 10-12, 11-8, 12-10) margin.
Back in the last 16, two north-easterner from the Ormesby club clashed and it was the lower-ranked who prevailed in five as Tom Rayner overcame third seed Ben Piggott 3-2 (12-10, 5-11, 11-9, 4-11, 11-9).
Fourth seed Joseph Hunter also went out, last year’s Cadet champion beaten in three by Josh Bruce, though it was not a convincing three straight as the scores were 13, 9 and 7.
Toby Ellis, Josh Weatherby and Nahom Asgedom having gone out in the groups, it meant Green, Boonyaprapa and Price were the only seeds to reach the quarters.
Group stage
The referee had to get the calculator out to determine the qualifiers from Group 7 as top-ranked Nahom Asgedom, second-ranked Josh Bruce and fourth-ranked Joseph Dennison all won twice.
All of them having beaten Aaron Yuk Shing Geung, it came down to the three-way head-to-head record.
Dennison defeated Bruce 3-0 (12-10, 11-9, 11-9), but lost to Asgedom 3-2 (11-9, 13-11, 4-11, 10-12, 11-6), while Bruce overcame Asgedom 3-0 (9, 9, 8).
So, it was Dennison who took the verdict, ahead of Bruce, with Asgedom missing out. Dennison can also be mighty glad of his 3-2 (7-11, 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 11-9) victory over Geung in his final match.
James Hamblett and Ralph Pattison both beat eighth seed Josh Weatherby in Group 8 to send him out of the tournament.
Third-ranked Pattison, the Cadet silver medallist yesterday, defeated him in the first match by a scoreline of 3-1 (6-11, 11-4, 15-13, 11-7), and Hamblett won in the last round, also by 3-1 (11-8, 11-6, 6-11, 11-5).
In between, second-ranked Hamblett beat Pattison 3-1 (4-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-7) to top the group.
A repeat of the 2021 final took place in Group 2 as champion Maxim Stevens took on Toby Ellis. Ellis was the higher-ranked player, but the result was the same as Stevens won 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 14-12). Coupled with wins over Jakub Piwowar and Owen Brown, that gave Stevens top spot.
Ellis, however, could not seal second as, having beaten third-ranked Piwowar by the skin of his teeth (6-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-13, 12-10), he then lost to fourth-ranked Brown in another thriller, Brown staging a huge comeback to take it 3-2 (9-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-5, 16-14). Brown also beat Piwowar, so it was he who went through with Stevens.
In Group 5, second-ranked Felix Thomis reversed the finishing position with top-ranked Louis Price by defeating his fellow left-hander 3-1 (11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6). Price won his other two matches, against Howard Onweng and Sam Cooper, to progress as runner-up.
Under-17 champion from yesterday, Naphong Boonyaprapa, took Group 6, as per ranking. But the Cadet champion, Larry Trumpsuakas, usurped second-ranked Jie Fu Tham to also go through.
Trumpauskas won that one 3-1 (11-4, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9). For the record, U17 champ beat Cadet champ 3-1 (11-9, 9-11, 11-5, 11-9). Boonyaprapa needed five to beat Tham, 11-9 in the decider, after Tham had recovered from two games down.
In Group 4 all went as planned, Joseph Hunter topping the standings, followed by second-ranked Tom Rayner – it was 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-9) to Hunter when the pair met, and they both defeated Nathaniel Saunders and Yiannis Kazantzidis.
Top seed Connor Green made it through in top spot in Group 1, but not without a scare from Bertie Kelly in the first match, the Somerset man taking it to a decider before Green ran out a 3-2 (6-11, 11-5, 11-3, 7-11, 11-4) winner.
Adam Dennison took the expected second place and also pushed Green, albeit in three sets (12-10, 11-7, 14-12).
Group 3 went with seeding as Ben Piggott and Olly Cornish made it through – a four-set win for Piggott in their meeting made sure he topped the pile. The battle for third place went the way of fourth-ranked Isaac Kingham, who beat Daniel Jones in four. Jones also battled hard against Cornish, who beat him 3-1 (15-13, 11-8, 6-11, 16-14).
Junior Girls’ Singles
Anaya Patel beat the top two seeds to take her second title of the day, winning the final 3-1 (11-9, 11-5, 8-11, 13-11) against second seed Amy Marriott in the final.
Patel ended the run of top seed Mari Baldwin in the semi-finals, the Basingstoke player taking it in four (11-7, 5-11, 11-8, 11-8). In the other semi, it was 3-2 (11-6, 11-13, 14-12, 8-11, 12-10) to Marriott over Megan Jones.
The last 16 saw two superb comebacks from 2-0 down as both Green and Marriott kept their hopes alive. Marriott turned the tables against Scarlett Anders to win it 7-11, 5-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-9, while Green’s fightback saw her get past Evelyn Pace 11-13, 5-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-7).
Marriott was ticking along nicely by the quarter-finals as she saw off Millie Rogove 7, 2, 7. At the same stage, Baldwin ended the hopes of Erin Green, also in three (4, 9, 6).
The other two went the distance as under-17 champion Jones shook off Anna Green 3-2 (12-10, 7-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8) and Patel ended the singles campaign of third seed Jasmin Wong 3-2 (11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 4-11, 11-7).
Group stage
The biggest surprises were in Group 8, where the top-ranked player Gemma Kerr went out. Second-ranked Saskia Key topped the group with three victories, but second place went to countback between Kerr, third-ranked Stefania Popa and fourth-ranked Eve Witterick.
Witterick took the verdict, having beaten Kerr in three while Popa beat her in four.
Anna Green beat the top-ranked player Anaya Patel to top Group 4. The second-ranked Green recovered from losing the first game to take the next three and win 3-1 (11-13, 12-10, 11-3, 11-4).
There was still a lot of work to do for Green, who had to overcome a tenacious Sienna Jetha 3-2 (8-11, 11-3, 11-6, 13-15, 11-8) to seal top spot in the group. Patel won against Jetha and Connie Dumelow to seal second.
Jasmin Wong won Group 3 as expected, without dropping a game. Second-ranked Samadhi Udamulla slipped up, however, losing to both third-ranked Bethany Ellis and fourth-ranked Anya Milne in five. Ellis recovered a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 (8-11, 11-13, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7), while Milne staved off a comeback by Udamulla to take it 3-1 (11-3, 11-9, 4-11, 5-11, 12-10).
Under-17 champion Megan Jones successfully emerged from Group 5 in the expected top place, but Isabelle Lacorte rose from third to second, above Rebecca Savage, thanks to a 3-1 (11-13, 11-4, 11-3, 12-10) victory in their match. Lacorte had earlier had to claw back a deficit to beat Jasmin Coker 3-2 (9-11, 11-7, 12-14, 11-2, 11-4).
Amy Marriott topped Group 2, though she was troubled in her first match by Ella Pashley, who led 2-0 and 5-1 before Marriott stormed back to win 3-2 (10-12, 10-12, 11-7, 11-4, 11-4).
Third-ranked Pashley did, however, take the second qualifying spot by beating Lauren Loosemore 3-0 (13-11, 11-6, 11-6).
It was as expected in Group 1, top seed Mari Baldwin and second-ranked Scarlett Anders qualifying – though Anders had to win 3-2 (9-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-3, 11-8) in her last match to take that second spot.
Erin Green and Evelyn Pace made it through Group 7 in the order that was expected. Seventh seed Green defeated Pace 3-1 (11-8, 11-13, 11-9, 17-15) in a high-quality meeting between the two, and they also both beat Mabel Shute and Sophie Rinnhofer. Fouth-ranked Shute got above Rinnhofer thanks to a switchback 3-2 (11-9, 6-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-5) win.
It was also the top two going through from Group 6, in the shape of Millie Rogove and Jodie Morris, though Morris needed to recover from 2-1 down to sink fourth-ranked Holly Davis 3-2 (11-6, 6-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9).
The meeting between the top two was a thriller and shaded by Rogove by a margin of 3-2 (7-11, 11-6, 12-10, 8-11, 13-11).
