Hurricanes do Storm Surge celebration for local frontline worker

The Storm Surge is back and perhaps better than ever.

The Carolina Hurricanes celebrated with their fans and honored another local frontline worker after their 4-3 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

After more than a year without Storm Surges, the Hurricanes reintroduced the postgame celebrations that would honor essential workers after their 5-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings on March 4.

On Saturday, the Hurricanes did the traditional Skol clap along with the roughly 3,000 fans in attendance at PNC Arena.

But instead of an elaborate celebration like the ones of the past, Carolina simply saluted Wake County EMS compliance officer Larry McMillan for his service fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fans cheered as McMillan’s picture was shared on the scoreboard with a special “Canes Salute” banner.
