After re-signing linebacker Matt Milano and right tackle Daryl Williams, the Buffalo Bills don’t have many glaring holes on their roster.
That’s good news for the Bills with free agency and the 2021 NFL Draft on the horizon. In free agency, Buffalo will have the ability to monitor upgrades at various positions, but won’t have to get into any bidding wars for top free agents. Their outlook in the draft is even better. When the Bills get on the clock late in Round 1, the team can truly take the best player available.
One potential target for Buffalo is Clemson running back Travis Etienne.
Buffalo’s loss to the Chiefs showed that the team does not have enough playmakers on offense. Etienne, arguably the most explosive back in this year’s draft class, certainly fits the playmaker mold that Buffalo lacks.
In his four-year career with the Tigers, Etienne rushed for 4,952 yards and 70 touchdowns on 686 carries (7.2 YPC). He also added 1,155 yards and eight touchdowns as a receiver with the bulk of his production coming in his final two seasons.
Etienne recently took part in Clemson’s pro day and showed up with 16 pounds of muscle added on to his frame. Weighing in at 215 pounds, Etienne looked just as fast as ever running a 4.4 40-yard dash. Seeing that Etienne can be just as explosive at that weight likely opened a lot of eyes across the league.
Etienne’s ability to make game-changing plays on the ground and as a receiver could make him an intriguing option for Buffalo if he falls to No. 30. One Bills player who would likely approve of the pick is Stefon Diggs.
Buffalo’s No. 1 wide receiver recently raved about Etienne by comparing him to New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.
That’s high praise for Etienne from one of the NFL’s top receivers. If Buffalo’s front office agrees with Diggs’ assessment and he’s available at No. 30, there is a good chance that he could be the Bills’ first selection in the 2021 NFL Draft.
