The city of Jerusalem is going to be the host of the 2022 IJF World Judo Masters. It is one of the most important judo competitions in the world after the Olympic Games and World Championships.
It is the first time that the Israel will host the prestigious event, slated to take place from December 19-21 in Jerusalem. In recent years, the prestigious competition has been held in China, Qatar, and Russia. The first edition was held in 2010 in Suwon (KOR).
The top 36 ranked judokas are expected to participate at the Masters. A gold medal in the Masters is worth 1,800 points for a judoka, a silver medal earns them 1,260 points, and a bronze 900 points, which is important for the athletes’ international ranking in a time that the Olympic Qualification for Paris really becomes relevant.
After the organisation of European Championships for seniors and athletes U23 years, the Israel Judo Association organised two Grand Prix events and two Grand Slams. The IJF World Masters is in fact the highest IJF World Tour event ever held in Israel.
It is 30 years after Jerusalem hosted the European Junior Championships.
