CHANDLER, Ariz. – Utah State’s golf team posted its fourth top-10 finish in as many events this season by tying for 10th at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at the Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass. The Aggies were one of 12 squads to finish under par for the tournament, which wrapped up Tuesday.
Fifth-year Chase Lansford led the way for Utah State as the native of Colleyville, Texas, carded a 54-hole score of 4-under par 212 to tie for 17th. Colten Cordingley was the only other Aggie to finish in the top 40 as the senior captain tied for 33rd at even-par 216.
Mountain West-rival San Diego State won the team title at 33-under 831 (267-281-283), defeating runner-up TCU by six strokes. Colorado (-24), Loyola Marymount (-20) and Stanford (-19) rounded out the top five of the 23-team field.
The Cardinal’s Barclay Brown claimed individual medalist honors at 14-under 202 (70-67-65).
For Lansford, it’s the second time he has finished under par for a tournament this season. He tied for 10th in par-4 scoring at the Cowboy Classic with an average of 3.90. Cordingley was the lone Aggie to shoot in the 60s as he shot a 4-under 68 in Tuesday’s final round, which included six birdies.
Freshman Javier Vazquez capped his tournament with an even-par 72 on Tuesday. The native of Mexico City, Mexico, tied for 67th overall at 6-over 222. Senior Andy Hess and junior Cameron Tucker both tied for 79th at 8-over 224.
The Aggies are back in action next week at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, April 12-13, at Sandpiper Golf Club in Goleta, Calif.
