Dauphin County commissioners use charity golf proceeds to spread the wealth to 16 nonprofits

The Dauphin County Commissioners issued checks this week to 16 area nonprofit organizations – proceeds from the commissioners’ annual charity golf outing in October.

The commissioners personally delivered checks on Thursday to three Harrisburg city organizations: Boys & Girls Club of Harrisburg, The Salvation Army Harrisburg Capital City Region, and The Program “It’s About Change,” according to a release.

“Of course, we would like the numbers to be bigger,” Dauphin County Commissioner Chair Mike Pries said, “but seeing the impact these funds have on organizations with limited budgets and resources is extremely rewarding.”

The commissioners are disbursing $50,000 in all, the release said.

Said Commissioner Chad Saylor, “These organizations are doing vital work at the ground level, and we are fortunate to have them as community partners.”

The $50,000 is the biggest sum ever raised in the 25-year history of the Commissioners’ Golf Outing. It’s organized by the county Parks & Recreation Department.

The organizations will receive checks in coming days, the release said.

The commissioners personally delivered checks on Thursday to three Harrisburg city organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club of Harrisburg.
