Man United striker tipped to terminate contract to join Barcelona

Word stemming from the media late on Thursday has pointed towards progress being made in a potential joining of forces between FC Barcelona and Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani.

Blaugrana concerns

It is of course common knowledge that, ahead of the January transfer window reopening, La Liga giants Barcelona are on the lookout for attacking reinforcements.

New boss Xavi Hernandez has been left with something of a conundrum in the attacking third over his first few weeks in the job at the Camp Nou, owing to a terrible stretch of luck on the personnel front.

As things stand, all of Martin Braithwaite, Memphis Depay and Ansu Fati are on the sidelines, due to respective fitness issues. Sergio Aguero, meanwhile, was this week forced to announce his retirement from the game.

Add to this the fact that Antoine Griezmann was allowed to secure a return to Atletico Madrid during the summer, opening the door for the bizarre arrival of out-of-favour Luuk de Jong, and the woes facing Xavi up top become clear for all to see.

Cavani incoming?

In turn, it will no doubt come as a boost to all associated with Barcelona to hear that progress appears to be very much on the cards towards securing fresh attacking options following the turn of the year.

The player tipped to link up with the Blaugrana? Edinson Cavani.

As per a report from TNT Sports Argentina, Cavani is prepared to terminate his contract with Manchester United six months early, to secure a move to the Camp Nou in January:

Not only that, but an insight into the potential terms on offer to the Uruguayan in Catalunya has too been provided.

Spanish journalist Gerard Romero reports that those in a position of power at Barca are ready to table a proposal worth 3.5 million euro, plus a further million in bonuses, for the remainder of the campaign.

Beyond this, Cavani would earn a guaranteed 4.5 million euro, along with a possible added 1.5 million, across 2022/23:

A further update just moments ago, meanwhile, points towards a deal now being imminent between the parties, with Cavani understood to have informed Boca Juniors, also interested in his signature, that he has already given his word to Barca:
