Yes Chelsea could use 1 or 2 more signings, but Trevoh Chalobah is Kurt Zouma’s replacement – Talk Chelsea

The meltdown has fully begun today after two deals reportedly stalled. Stalled by the way, not off yet, just stalled. But whether they will get done or not, the anger from some Chelsea fans on Twitter has already begun before we even know if these will be concluded.

I agree, I also feel the squad needs one or two more signings before the window closes to really help us challenge for the title, especially a midfielder for me. However, there are some things that people are forgetting here, first and foremost just how good Trevoh Chalobah has been since the start of pre-season. He’s proven that he has more than enough to come into this squad and compete.

I see everyone shouting we need a Kurt Zouma replacement, but hang on a minute, Chalobah wasn’t in this squad last season and he is a defender, so how is he not being considered the replacement for Zouma now he IS in the squad?

Look I get people want Jules Kounde, and so do I, he’s a quality player and one of the best rising defenders in world football, if we have a chance to sign him we should. But at the same time we cannot use the reason that Zouma needs a replacement, Zouma has a replacement, and he is pretty damn good.

A midfielder is more pressing for me, purely because of N’Golo Kante’s recent history with injuries, and Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic will soon burn out. Saul Niguez is the most important pursuit, or if there is still a chance, Aurelien Tchouameni, because that position on the park if where we need to add extra numbers in my view.

Ethan Ampadu is quality, but he isn’t playing and would be a risk to come in, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek is not a number 6 for me. So we do need a midfielder. But will I get angry if we don’t? No, because you know why? This is already a Champions League winning squad, one that Thomas Tuchel is already content with despite admitting he still would like to ideally add one of two more players. If we need to we can address things in January.

The board should and are backing Tuchel, but people need to remember that this is a business and if we are seen to be buckling to every clubs demands who moving the goal posts at the last minute, that sees us as weak negotiators, and no club wants to be seen as that. It’s a fine balance.

To conclude, we do still need one or two more signings, but it’s not disastrous if they don’t arrive and we do already have players in the squad good enough to fill in and they deserve a chance to prove they can do it, if it comes to it.
