Week 36 – Everton vs Sheffield United – Sport Grill

[ad_1]

Everton welcome Sheffield United to Goodison Park in Super Sunday Night Football to conclude a packed quadruple-header.

Victory would see Sheffield Utd keep their faint hopes of avoiding a rock bottom finish to this season’s Premier League, providing that West Brom lose to Liverpool on Sunday teatime.

Should Tottenham lose to Wolves on Sunday afternoon, Everton can climb to seventh with a win.

Yerry Mina could return for Everton after missing Thursday’s goalless draw at Aston Villa with an adductor injury.

James Rodriguez (calf) is also set to return but Jean-Philippe Gbamin (knee) remains absent.

Sheffield Utd could be without Ethan Ampadu who is struggling to recover from a groin strain, which forced him to miss last weekend’s loss to Crystal Palace.

Oli McBurnie (foot), Billy Sharp (muscle) and Jack O’Connell (knee) remain ruled out.

Stat Attack

  • Everton have lost one of their last seven league meetings against Sheffield United (W4, D2, L1).
  • Sheffield Utd have won two of four previous Premier League trips to Goodison Park (W2, L2).
  • Three of the four Premier League meetings at Goodison Park have been settled by 2-0 results, with Everton winning just one of those three occasions.
  • Everton’s Colombian duo of James Rodriguez (18) and Yerry Mina (4) have produced 22 shots on target in total between them.
  • Coming into this matchweek, no team has produced fewer shots this season than Sheffield Utd who have unleashed just 290 shots in 35 league games.

Prediction

Having snatched a clinical win last Sunday, Everton will be slightly disappointed to have been held to a goalless draw on Thursday evening at Aston Villa, despite having finished their chances better so I expect them to come here pressing for a vital win.

Sheffield Utd meanwhile were lacklustre in last weekend’s loss to Crystal Palace because their defending in the opening and closing minutes cost them, whereas they just generally failed to create any decent opportunities throughout.

Now if they do that here then I can see a routine result heading Everton’s way even though the Toffees’ home form has been their weakness in recent months outside of cup competitions.

Prediction: Everton 2-0 Sheffield United
