Week 32 – Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotspur – Sport Grill

[ad_1]

Aston Villa welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Villa Park as both teams look to consolidate their chases of a top-ten and top-four finish respectively.

Victory would see Villa climb to ninth until late Sunday afternoon at minimum, whereas Tottenham can stay fourth with a win irrespective of what Arsenal do in their mid-afternoon kick-off on Saturday.

Danny Ings is set to return for Aston Villa after missing their defeat at Wolves last weekend for personal reasons.

Lucas Digne (illness), Kortney Hause (abdominal), Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendia (both knock) are all expected to be available but Marvelous Nakamba (knee) remains absent.

Tottenham will welcome Sergio Reguilon back from a knee injury which forced him to miss last weekend’s comeback victory over Newcastle.

Ryan Sessegnon (muscle) could also feature but Japhet Tanganga (knee) and Oliver Skipp (groin) remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Aston Villa have won one of their last five meetings against Tottenham (W1, L4).
  • Tottenham have avoided defeat in their last ten league visits to Villa Park (W8, D2).
  • Villa’s Ollie Watkins has scored in each of his last two appearances against Spurs (W1, L1).
  • Villa have won just one of their five home matches in 2022 (W1, D2, L2).
  • Son Heung-min has scored three goals in his last two Tottenham appearances.

Prediction

Having delivered an uncharacteristically weak display in last weekend’s loss at Wolves full of errors and slow defensive reaction, Villa certainly need strong improvement defensively if they’re to take the fight to Tottenham especially if Spurs opt to play on the counter.

As for Tottenham, their spirit seems to have been revived after a recent rough patch with two strong home victories which was more evident in how they instantly bounced back to equalise quickly against Newcastle before ruthlessly thrashing the Magpies in the second half.

Now if Antonio Conte’s men can bring that quality on the road, I would struggle to not see them winning here but I do expect Villa to try and go defensive like they did against Arsenal last month, although I just can’t see the hosts having enough for a win.

Prediction: Aston Villa 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur
