BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — Andres Vombergar struck late as San Lorenzo clinched a 2-1 away win at Racing Club in Argentina’s Primera Division on Monday.

Ignacio Mendez put the visitors ahead just after halftime with a low finish after combining with Vombergar.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men shortly after when Tomas Chancalay was shown a straight red card for a violent tackle on Agustin Giay.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, the hosts equalized just after the hour mark as Enzo Copetti headed in from close range after Eugenio Mena’s cross.

But Racing responded with urgency, pushing forward in numbers in search of a winner. And they were rewarded in the 72nd minute through Vombergar, who calmly sent a shot into the bottom left corner after Adam Bareiro’s headed flick.

Racing was further handicapped in the 88th minute when Leonardo Sigali was booked for a second time for a bad challenge on Bareiro.

The result leaves San Lorenzo eighth in the 28-team Primera Division standings with 23 points from 15 games, a point behind Racing.
