Let’s be honest, none of us expected Chelsea to keep academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah in the squad this season.
Although Thomas Tuchel had admitted to watching Chalobah play closely when both were in France and complimented his qualities, it looked near impossible that Chalobah would be staying, especially with the strong links to Chelsea trying to sign Jules Kounde and Achraf Hakimi.
It would be amazing if you guys subscribed for my project over at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, where we are putting out so much Chelsea content including exclusive news, breaking news, Podcasts, interviews, and bringing in some massive guests!
But those didn’t happen and a mix of that, and Chalobah’s superb pre-season form, got him a place in Tuchel’s squad this season.
Now we all know the quality Chalobah has, but even still, I’m not sure any of us really expected him to hit the ground running this hard and this fast in his first season in the Premier League, where even many experienced players take seasons to fully adapt.
But Chalobah has named himself on the scene and is already proving that he could well be Chelsea, and the Premier League’s surprise package this season.
He has come in full of confidence, desire, and quality, and he has proven to be a real asset for Chelsea all over the park, even scoring goals.
Tuchel would not have expected to have this headache with Chalobah fighting hard for a regular starting place. Make no mistake, this lad hasn’t stayed in the squad to make the numbers up, he wants to start and he wants to play, and he absolutely deserves to right now based on his form.
But as Tuchel always says, he can only select 11 players, but Chalobah has given him something to really ponder now.
