Many Tottenham fans have been reacting to the latest rumours surrounding their club this afternoon on Twitter.
Spurs-focussed Twitter account @TheSpursExpress relayed reports from journalist Alasdair Gold, who revealed that there is a ‘growing belief’ that Gareth Bale will be staying at Real Madrid next season as he enters the final year of his contract.
Bale returned to north London last season for the first time since his departure in 2013, as Spurs were able to agree on a loan deal with Real Madrid.
Spanish outlet AS had previously claimed that the potential sale of Harry Kane could lead to Bale returning to the club permanently – but fans were left despondent after Gold’s latest claim:
So, how exactly did Tottenham fans react to the rumour surrounding Gareth Bale?
“Keeps getting worse”
“Not exactly a surprise”
Judging by the reaction of some of the Spurs fans who took to Twitter this afternoon, the claims that Bale won’t be returning to Tottenham for the upcoming season hasn’t exactly come as a shock to the fans, but nevertheless, it has still hurt them.
Bale had a mixed loan spell on his return to north London. Although he was unable to convince Jose Mourinho to play him regularly, as he only made his first appearance in November and found himself confined to the bench frequently until the turn of the year. However, he ended his stint at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with 16 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions.
All things considered, it is no surprise that Bale has reportedly opted to stay in Madrid for the final year of his contract as Spurs are yet to appoint Mourinho’s successor. There seems to be a sense of disorganisation as Spurs ended talks with another managerial candidate, Gennaro Gattuso, earlier this week.
