Tottenham Hotspur: Romano provide Cristian Romero update

[ad_1]

Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about all things transfers in the latest episode of his Here We Go podcast.

One potential transfer deal which the Italian journalist spoke about was Tottenham Hotspur’s reported interest in Atalanta’s Cristian Romero.

Could Cristian Romero be a good Alderweireld replacement?

Yes

No

No

The 23-year-old defender is currently enjoying a well-earned break following his efforts in Copa America, in which he played 79 minutes of Argentina’s triumphant final against Brazil (via Transfermarkt).

Spurs are said to be closing in on the signing of Atalanta’s goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, with a deal between the two clubs reportedly agreed upon.

However, a deal for the centre-back appears to be some way off from being close to completion, according to Romano.

He said: “Tottenham are thinking of him. Yes, he is an option. Yes, it’s not advanced like saying okay, they are close to reaching an agreement.

“I am told there is a big gap between Atalanta and Tottenham at the moment, but they’re working on it. So [Cristian] Romero is one of the names on the list.”

TIF Thoughts on Romero to Spurs…

Romero has really impressed for both Atalanta and Argentina. The £31.5m-rated ace featured in 31 of Atalanta’s Serie A games in the 2020/21 season in which Gian Piero Gasperini’s side finished third.

Speculation still surrounds Toby Alderweireld’s future at Spurs, and the Lilywhites are said to be open to selling Davinson Sanchez this summer.

If these two centre-backs are to depart this summer, then we think Spurs will need to bring in a replacement who can provide adequate experience at the back. And we feel Romero has already shown potential to be that man through playing a big role in the successes of his club and country.
