Who are Aston Villa’s best FPL assets?

Aston Villa were one of the surprise packages of the 2020/21 campaign.

After barely staving off relegation the season prior, Villa went on to become one of the surprise packages of 2020/21 and even looked as though they could finish in a European place at one point.

However, they tailed off somewhat towards the end of the campaign but were still able to finish in 11th place.

But Dean Smith’s side do look on course to push for a top-half finish this time around after adding creative midfielder Emi Buendia to their ranks over the summer.

But who are Villa’s current top players for your Fantasy Premier League side?

Ollie Watkins, forward (7.5m)

First up is Ollie Watkins who, despite having zero top-flight experience at the time, enjoyed a superb breakout campaign with Villa last time out.

The forward was able to notch an impressive 14 goals and nine assists in the Premier League.

Said return made him an incredible budget option for your side and he once again looks set to be a popular pick this year as well.

Watkin’s price has risen slightly, but he still looks great value for money – especially if Villa can keep hold of Jack Grealish this summer as a trio of Grealish, Buendia and Bertrand Traore would no doubt help Watkins continue to shine in the top-flight.

Jack Grealish, midfielder (8.0m)

That brings us onto our second Villa pick, Jack Grealish.

Grealish would miss 12 league games through injury last term, but was still able to chip in with six goals and 12 assists for The Claret and Blue.

So, at 8.0m, if he can be kept fit, Grealish could be one of the must-have midfielders on FPL for the forthcoming season.

It is, however, worth noting that Manchester City seem very keen to sign Grealish this summer, which may impact his value as he would probably not be guaranteed a starting spot in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Matt Targett, defender (5.0m)

The final player you may wish to sign from Aston Villa this year is Matt Targett.

Villa had a pretty decent defence last campaign, which saw Emiliano Martinez keep the 3rd most clean sheets in the PL behind Ederson and Edouard Mendy.

However, Martinez at 5.5m is slightly pricey for a keeper this time around. So, if you still wish to benefit from Villa’s clean sheets, Matt Targett is a viable option.

He is 0.5m cheaper than Martinez and is also fairly attack-minded, which can lead to some attacking returns – he notched four assists in the league in 2020/21.
