On Sunday, Corinthians announced the signing of Sylvinho, a 47-year-old Brazilian coach. Since his departure from Lyon in France in 2019, the Brazilian coach has been without a club. He joins the club on a contract that will expire in the end of 2022.
Negotiations between Sylvinho and Corinthians started quietly last Saturday, following the conclusion of talks with Uruguayan Diego Aguirre, and quickly progressed to a successful conclusion.
Sylvinho won the 1995 Copa do Brasil, the 1998 Brasileiro, and the 1995, 1997, and 1999 Paulistão after being discovered at Timo’s foundation.
He returned to the club as a technical assistant in 2013. In 2016, he took on the same job with the Brazilian team and was named the new coach of the Ligue 1 outfit, but his contract with Lyon was soon terminated.
In 2016, Sylvinho was also expected to take over as coach of Corinthians under the direction of Roberto de Andrade, who is now the club’s football director, but he preferred to stay in Europe to complete his UEFA courses. He was working as an assistant for Inter Milan at the time.
He also worked as an assistant for Cruzeiro and Sport, where he met Vagner Mancini, the Corinthians coach who was fired after his team was eliminated in Paulistão.
Doriva, will also be joining Sylvinho as an assistant coach and has already booked a flight to Brazil, from Portugal.
It would be interesting to see what becomes of Sylvinho at the club, especially with the Brazilian Championship just at the corner. Corinthians will welcome Atletico-GO to their home turf for the first game of the season.
Vocês estão perguntando dele…
O professor Sylvinho já está no comando no campo! 😎
