Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Marseille star Boubacar Kamara in the summer transfer window.
What’s the story?
According to reports from Spain, Antonio Conte’s side have their sights set on the young Frenchman, whose contract at the Stade Velodrome comes to an end this summer.
Kamara is among a list of five names who are deemed as crucial in convincing Conte to stay at the club and that his future remains in north London.
A Paratici masterclass
While he is tremendously versatile, Kamara could be used by Conte as the midfield anchorman; and it’s safe to say that he has earned rave reviews for his ability and potential, with his former Marseille teammate Rolando waxing lyrical about him.
He said of the 22-year-old: “This kid is a phenomenon. When he started training with us, he was 15 years old. And from day one, I said, no, but this little one is going to be a great player.
“He’s the kind of central defender I like. He is full of qualities and, above all, he works, he listens. It is out of the ordinary.”
As per WhoScored, Kamara averaged a whopping 2.5 tackles per game in Ligue 1 last season, but also boasted one dribble per match and averaged 58 passes per game at an accuracy of 86.7%. To put that into context, only Hojbjerg in the entire Spurs squad managed more tackles than him in 2020/21.
Given that he has tasted continental football with Marseille this season in the Europa Conference League, and has been playing at the top level in France for a number of years, the 22-year-old would be an exciting addition to the Spurs ranks.
Also, the fact that he would be available on a free transfer would make it very much a low-risk, high-reward signing who would illustrate every bit of the genius at work from Fabio Paratici.
The Italian pulled off some impressive work in the January transfer window by getting in the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski, and he can add to that level of quality by bringing in Kamara as well.
The 6-foot star could be exactly what Conte needs in the middle of the park.
