With the dust still settling after arguably the most hectic and memorable transfer window in history, talk is now turning to the January window, with a number of clubs looking to sign players that they missed out on over the summer.
Harry Kane’s will-he-won’t-he saga with Manchester City ultimately never materialised, meaning that the Citizens will play the first four months of the season with only Gabriel Jesus as a recognised number nine.
If Kane does move to City in January, the London side will be on the lookout for a replacement.
However, it appears that they may have already missed out on one of their top targets.
According to Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez is close to agreeing a new contract with the Serie A side.
A potential contract extension for the Argentine could be bad news for Spurs and North London neighbours Arsenal, as both clubs have been heavily linked with a move for the player.
Spurs had reportedly agreed a deal for the striker over the summer, however the deal fell through following Chelsea’s signing of Romelu Lukaku.
The report states that either Premier League side would need ‘big bids’ to have any chance of luring the player away from the San Siro.
Martinez was part of the Argentina side that won the Copa America over the summer and also played a key role in Inter’s Serie A triumph last season.
Since arriving in Milan, Martinez has scored 51 goals in 135 games for the club, including 17 league goals as Inter won the league title last term.
