Shanghai Shenhua have announced the double import signings of Christian Bassogog and Matej Jonjic.

Ahead of the 2021 season, Shanghai Shenhua have moved to sign two impressive import players in hopes of having the blue side of the city compete at the top of the table once again.

Bassogog is a known quantity in Chinese football, having played the past few seasons for Henan Jianye, now known as Henan Songshan.

The Cameroonian, who has 26 caps for his country to his name, has scored 26 goals and added a further 19 assists in 85 total appearances since arriving in China in 2017.

During his time at the club, the 26-year-old helped improve fortunes and saw the team progress from relegation candidates in his debut season to being a stable mid-table side in 2020.

Joining Shenhua will be seen as a step forward in his career, as he looks to win silverware and hopes that the winners of the 2017 and 2019 Chinese FA Cup can be the way to do so.

Alongside Bassogog, is a mainstay in Asian football in Matej Jonjic, who has played in both South Korea and Japan since 2015.

The 30-year-old centre back has most recently played for Cerezo Osaka of the J-League, a club in which he earned 161 total appearances, scoring 13 goals and adding three assists.

During his time in Japan, Jonjic helped guide the club to Japanese Cup and League Cup successes in 2017, also helping the club lift the Japanese Super Cup in 2018.

For two seasons prior to joining Osaka, Jonjic played for K-League club Incheon United, where he made 79 appearances in all competitions.

Jonjic should provide Shenhua with reliable defending and is a smart signing ahead of the new season, with the club addressing needs at both ends of the pitch.
