Shanghai Shenhua announce a trio of signings – Wild East Football

Shanghai Shenhua have continued their winter signings with the announcement of three new arrivals at the club.

The trio follow on from the signing of Wen Jiabao earlier in the month, though they are a stark contrast to the 21-year-old former Guangzhou Evergrande product.

The overall ‘theme’ of the new signings appearances to be experience, with all three players already approaching their mid-30s.

Cameroon international Stephane M’Bia arrives in China’s largest city with 331 professional league appearances to his name already, with 63 of them coming in the Chinese Super League during two spells in the middle kingdom with Hebei and Wuhan.

He arrives alongside fellow defensive midfielder Qin Sheng, who has returned to the club after a two-year spell with Dalian Yifan (now Professional), joining what now appears to be a crowded room at the position.

Alexander N’Doumbou is still contracted to the club and Sun Shilin is also still on the books, capable of playing in defensive midfield as well as out on the right side of the defence.

The decision two sign two players in the same position is an interesting one, with just 30 league games a season leaving very few opportunities to stake a claim to a starting role.

Shanghai Shenhua’s third signing also arrives alongside Qin Sheng from Dalian Professional, in the form of right-back Zhao Mingjian.

Zhao brings with him a wealth of experience in the Chinese Super League, having had spells with Dalian Shide, Shandong, Changchun Yatai, Hebei and most recently with Dalian Yifang.

The 32-year-old will now compete with the likes of Zhang Lu and Li Yunqiu for playing time during the 2020 season.
