Romelu Lukaku set for a chance to repeat Arsenal success – Talk Chelsea

‘Classic Lukaku’ was how commentator Gary Neville described it at the time live on Sky Sports. It was Romelu Lukaku’s first goal back in a Chelsea shirt, and the fans were soon belting out his name.

We were up against our London rivals Arsenal, just like we are again tomorrow night, and Lukaku had announced himself back as a Chelsea player again on his second debut for the club, in Arsenal’s own backyard, after 15 minutes of play.

He then went on to dominate Arsenal in a fine performance for Chelsea and we were all left celebrating his arrival and excited about the future and the season he was about to have.

Then the Sky Italy interview happened and this moment seems like nothing but a distant memory now. Lukaku though, has a chance to do it all again tomorrow against the same team in the Premier League, and it would be very fitting if he used this game to springboard his Chelsea career back to those highs once again.

Lukaku could start against Arsenal tomorrow, with Thomas Tuchel having hinted that Kai Havertz needs to rest, which he was supposed to get against Crystal Palace but Lukaku was just returning from an injury.

It doesn’t mean Lukaku is definitely going to start against Arsenal, but it sounds like he has been planning to try and start him at least and this could mean he starts tomorrow.

“What he needs is maybe that one moment, one spark,” Tuchel said in his press conference today. “I told you he would normally be a natural starter against Crystal Palace because of the amount Kai Havertz played recently and the amount of physicality Kai gives to the matches.”

We will see if he does get that chance to try and salvage his Chelsea career tomorrow night or not, or whether he has to make do with yet another start from the bench as the games just pass him by right now.
