The winter transfer window continues to move along and another foreign player has been linked with a move to Changchun Yatai.

Michael Sarpong, Adam Taggart and Serginho have all been rumoured or reported to be making a move to the Changchun City Stadium, and this time it is Portuguese attacking midfielder Ricardo Alves linked with the club.

The rumours come from Russian media ‘soccernews‘, who report that the 26-year-old FC Orenburg player is close to joining Samvel Babayan’s side this winter.

The former Portugal Under-20 international joined the Russian Premier League side last season and has five goals and four assists in 30 total appearances for the club.

His move to Russia came after a very successful spell with Olimpija Ljubljana of the Slovenian PrvaLiga. Alves made 88 total appearances for Ljubljana, scoring 16 goals, registering 10 assists while helping to guide the team to two league titles and a Slovenian Cup.

Alves’ contract is due to expire in June, according to TransferMarkt, but his club does have a one-year option that they could use as a way to bump up the asking price, which is rumoured to be around £1.2 million.

For Changchun, addressing the team’s thin midfield is a top priority for their new manager, with the link between the centre of the pitch and the strike partnership of Richairo Zivkovic and Tan Long lacking at times in last season’s disappointing fifth-place finish.

Adding players that can provide a link and help contribute in front of goal appears to be the route Babayan is taking and some of the names being linked with the club should give fans some renewed hope ahead of the 2020 campaign.
