Guangzhou City have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Guilherme Costa Marques.

With the Chinese transfer market extended for an additional month, teams continue to announce their latest arrivals, with Guilherme headed to the blue side of Guangzhou.

The 29-year-old arrives in China after spending the past few season’s playing in Turkey, where he has featured on loan for four different clubs since 2018.

During that spell, Guilherme helped Trabzonspor to the 2019/20 Turkish Cup and was most recently playing well for Göztepe, whom he had scored twice for in just ten league appearances.

Prior to his time in Turkey, Guilherme had played the majority of his career with Legia Warsaw of the Polish Ekstraklasa, reaching 150 total appearances in all competitions for the club.

His time in Poland was hugely successful, with four league titles and three Polish Cup successes before a brief stint in Serie A with Benevento followed by a move to Alvarenga in Portugal, though he never made an appearance for the club.

Now, the Brazilian, who primarily plays through the middle but can be deployed out on the right, joins Jean-Paul van Gastel’s side, who will be hoping to improve on last season’s 11th place finish and get back to being the side that finished fifth and sixth in back-to-back seasons not too long ago.

Guilherme has reportedly agreed to a three-year deal with the southern Chinese club and appears set to be a key piece to the puzzle for the side, joining fellow countryman Caio Dantas.
